Application process.

Securing an appointment is essential, as it is mandatory that applicants appear in person for biometric data collection in order to submit and collect their permit. 

Application fees. 

The cost for CIBT’s service is HKD 3,115 (exclusive of government fees and other incidentals). Once your application is processed and approved, the permit, which is valid for five years, allows the holder of the permit multiple entries into China as long as these stays do not exceed 90 days.

Processing time.

The processing timeline from acceptance to approval and issuance is approximately 20 working days. Upon approval, the permit can be collected from the designated kiosk located at China Travel Service.

Eligibility criteria.

Permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) and the Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR) who are non-Chinese citizens are eligible to apply for the China Home Return Card. This permit facilitates travel for investment, family visits, tourism, business, seminars and exchanges and serves as an alternative to the one-year visa, making it a convenient option for short-term entry purposes.

Residency and visa requirements.

For those seeking Permanent Residency (right to abode) in Hong Kong, it is important to note that this can be applied for after ordinarily resided  in Hong Kong for a continuous period of seven (7) years. Documentary proof of ordinary residence will need to be furnished at the time of application. If an applicant does not have a Hong Kong Permanent Resident Card, a traditional visa will be required for entry into China.  Application for the visa will need to be made at the nearest Chinese consulate or visa centre.
