How to Get Your
Passport Photo Right

Traveling internationally often requires the use of a passport. One overlooked part of the process of obtaining a passport is the passport photograph. While it seems like a small detail, passport photos have strict requirements. Not providing an acceptable passport photo could result in the rejection of your request for a new passport or passport renewal. But, by following the helpful tips provided below, you’ll ensure your passport photo doesn’t get your application denied.

Photo Basics

Let’s start with the basics. To make sure your passport photo meets all requirements:

  1. Submit a color photo of yourself, taken in the last 6 months.
  2. Use a clear image of your face. Do not use filters commonly used on social media.
  3. Have someone else take your photo. No selfies.
  4. Take off your eyeglasses for your photo.
  5. Use a plain white or off-white background.
