Medline Traveler Information
Work authorization (visa or work permit) must be obtained before an employee may work in the Host country. Actively working in a Host country can trigger immigration, tax, and social security scheme requirements.
International Business Travel generally does not require a work visa or work permit if the employee is only conducting or attending business meetings and/or trainings, but may require a visa waiver, visitor visa, travel or entry visa, or perhaps a business invitation letter. If however the employee is performing productive work, or substituting for another employee in the Host country, or charging their time while in the Host country to the Host entity, then the employee will need a work visa or permit regardless of the length of the Business Travel.
A company related to the illegal work risks penalties and fines, and can be banned from sponsoring additional work visas into that Host country. Employees in violation of work permit/work visa regulations who are working illegally can be subject to entry ban for the Host country and risk withdrawal of their visa, and employees who willfully violate regulations may be subject to termination.
If performing any of the three below tasks while in the host country, you should apply for a business visa. If other tasks will be performed, please reach out to the HR Department.
- Receive Training only
- Participate in Business Meetings only
- Both Training and Business Meetings
Be aware that your activities in a foreign country may require you to have a work visa. Medlines’s Code of Conduct requires you to comply with all immigration laws in all countries you visit on our behalf. CIBT does not advise on whether a work permit is needed. It is your responsibility to make sure you have the proper permits for your specific activity. Below are guidelines for specific countries. IIf you are traveling to a different country and do not know the limits of a business visitor’s activities, please consult [email protected] before booking travel.
